DIY Planner Accessories with Adornit

Making your own planner accessories is not as hard as people think. You can even do most of the items with a paper cutter if you do not own a die cutting machine.

Here I put together a simple dashboard for my planner using just the adornit papers and cut out one of the decorative elements from the paper to put in the middle of the paper to dress it up. Either use a template that can be purchased from Silhouette if you don't know how to make your own or you can simple cut the paper to the size of your planner.

For an A5 you need it to be 5.75" x 8.25" these measurements work for most A5 planners if you are using something besides a Filofax or Kikki K you may want to measure one of your pages or use it as a template.

Personal size is 3.75 x 6.75

You can use a hand punch if you do not own a planner punch. I own lots of punches but I hand punch all my dashboards or planner items

You could laminate it to keep it much more durable or if you like to switch yours out the paper quality is heavy enough that it will hold up well unlamented. I took a lot of the cut apart to dress up the pockets and used one of the paintables to just do a quick watercolor paint on them and backed with some of the basics from adornit.

Here is a look at the finished product.

Secondly I made a pocket bookmark and I created a tab at the top and I did laminate this pocket bookmark and then you can simply use a sharpie to put whatever you want on the tab! Use a alcohol wipe to clean it off whenever you want to change it.

You could also just make this to be a "white board" if you used less bold colors and wanted to just use it for notes again use a sharpie and wipe off with alcohol pad

You can use the label pockets you can find at the dollar spot to attach to the front of this to create your pocket. It can also be done by layering paper on top of the main paper and once laminated you cut that seal where the shorter piece is and it makes a pocket if you cannot get ahold of the clear pockets. I have done it both ways before.

I just used the dashboard template I had and created a tab for the top of it and welded it together in my silhouette program. Again if you don't have a die cutting machine then create a template on paper using one of the sheets from your planner and then draw the tab on top and then cut your template out to then cut your paper.

Its really simple to do these items and there are so many more things you can do including bookmarks and cute little elements to dress it up.

Adornit Memorydex project

Memorydex cards

Its been quite a while since I have actually crafted. Since diving into the planner world and having my Etsy shop I have had little time to actually craft or even want to. I wanted so badly to get back to my old self and get crafty and blog again so when I seen the opportunity to apply for being an "Adornit Girl" I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try out. I love everything they put out and did you know they also have clothing and shoes! I mean match made in heaven and if you want to see the clothing and join the vip page on Facebook I will provide links at the bottom of this post.

I received quite a bit of pretty papers that were just perfect and I know the memorydex cards are the new rage so I figured I might as well get my feet wet with a brand new project for me. I know that mine are a bit beginner but you have to start somewhere correct!?

I create the memorydex cards in my silhouette program. Looking at a file my friend sent me I recreated because the lines were not clean. I will also give the file to anyone who would like it just contact me there is a place on my blog.

I did find some light cardboard that was in a paper pack I had to cut a base with it for sturdiness. Then I cut from my selected papers the shapes again.

I wanted to cut some flowers from some of the more bold pattern papers to add to one of my cards. Its best to kind of plan out a theme for each card so you can figure out what you need to cut.

I absolutely adore halloween projects so I found some items I wanted to cut to add to a card to do a halloween card as well.

I have a button machine so I took one of the stickers and made a button out of it to coordinate with the papers and stickers I used for that card. I also made a cute halloween button as well.

Twine was used on one to just give it some interest. I love twine and I have a lot of colors. Some little wooden elements dressed it up as well as the adornit washi tape. I used distress ink on the halloween one to just make it look grungy..

Sticker Kit from Mrs Brimbles

Stickers are in the house!! Well these little fruity stickers are just the cutest. I used a lot of the stickers to start my spread. I am no where near done but I liked the Washi strips to add decoration in between my squares and this is a limelife planner so the boxes are a bit different sizes but still these fit perfectly allowing you to use another half or quarter box or decoration in the same square. I just used the fruit throughout the layout.

I actually think these cute little fruit would make some awesome washi tape Mrs Brimbles hint hint! You get four nice sheets of stickers in this kit. Plenty for multiple layouts especially if you use others to mix with it.

I love the cute little faces on the fruit and the whimsical feel of it. I am trying hard to get better at layouts but I am still not the best. Sometimes I dive in before thinking it out. I am fluid like that! I am so organized with most of my life and with doing a layout for some reason it stresses me out because I feel once I put it down I have committed to it and then I look at it and think omg I wish I would have done this or that but hey it is just a layout and I try to let this be the one part of my life that I just WING IT!

Sometimes that feels good when you are a OCD personality like I would say I am. So I would suggest to anyone that feels they are too rigid in life to let planning be the one thing you just enjoy being free at. Yes it is commitment once a sticker is down but try hard to work around it and not get too disappointed in it. We all have to get our groove and until you get your groove then accept your planning as it is and own it!

Its like Crazy Elaine in Seinfeld, she couldn't dance but it didn't stop her. Sure she looked funny doing it but she had fun doing it and that is what counts. So if you take anything away from my post let it be that. ENJOY the moment, don't compare yourself to others that you seen having perfect spreads because you are unique and you should be yourself.

Have fun planning!

I have loads of space to fill in yet but at least I am getting a good start.

Stickers on a budget

Planner printable stickers and saving
money making your own kits

Most people who are into planning or even crafting may own a die cutting machine but even if you do not you can make some planner stickers yourself to save money with just using your printer and a pair of scissors.

I will share with you several sites that you can get free printable stickers and there are also loads on Etsy that can be purchased really reasonable. So that if you want to decorate your planner you can on a budget. Sometimes you just don't want to take the time to create a set of stickers from scratch so these are also nice to get started quicker. I will also link several different places to purchase sticker paper that range in prices and also different materials such as matte, glossy or reposition able.

I know a lot of times purchasing kits are the best way to keep your planner spread cohesive and a lot of the printable sites have multiple sheets where you can print coordinating elements. There are loads more and pretty easy to find on pinterest but these are the ones I found to be great sites
First we will talk about printable sites. Here is a list of the ones I have found and like a lot.

3. (she has LOADS and its one of my favorite sites for freebies)

Low Cost Sticker Files

Here is a few of the low cost planner printable and some not all will even include a silhouette file. Most don't but if you are manual cutting with scissors that is not important but for those with silhouette machines it is nice.

1.  (this is a great site! There is also some freebies)

2. (she has some freebies, her sets are beautiful)

Now you will need a color printer but most of us have that and then here is some resources for sticker paper:

I personally shop ONLINELABELS.COM for mine. They have an array of shapes if you want to create your own and have them fit in the templates so you wouldn't even have to use a cutter or scissors but I buy full sheets with no slits in the back either.

I buy the matte reposition-able which are a bit more pricey because they can be removed easily and relocated. They run about $29.95 for 100.
They have matte, glossy, reposition-able and loads of shapes and template software.

They have some matte stickers that are not reposition-able that are a low cost of $12.95 for 100. Shipping runs about $5-6 so this is something I try to avoid but for selling I do go with this site because I want the quality they offer.

Low cost option and a much better way to find free shipping is Amazon. Here is one that offers stickers for 12.00 for 100 and free shipping. STICKERS

If you do not own a die cutting machine but would like to buy one and want to get in as cheaply as possible and you really just want to cut stickers I would suggest the Silhouette portrait. I am in the US so these links will all be US companies but most offer international shipping,  this site offers a lot of bundles as well which is nice to get some extra's with your machine.

Portrait: Swing Design offers a lot of bundles start at $145 and up depending on what bundle and of course what is most important to you in your bundle. Your limited to nothing bigger than 9" wide to fit in this machine but it is perfect for doing stickers.

Cameo 2: This one you can go up to 12" wide on materials but that is really the only difference. They cut the same. I use this one because I do a lot of paperclips and in mass quantities so utilizing the 12" paper gives me more items on a page. $199 & up

Cameo 3: This is the newest machine in the Silhouette arsenal and the basic difference is this machine can hold two tools at one time. The blade is also self adjusting (the first tool anyway) and there is a bit more storage for tools. Unfortunately when they made this they made no improvements in the materials it can cut, the cutting power and last but most importantly they did not improve on the noise the machines make! That would have been a big improvement. Price point $269

Cricut Air 2- This is the newest machine in the cricut lineup. They still sell the Cricut Air, and the Explore. Both the original Cricut air and Cricut Air 2 have bluetooth. Both hold two tools but the second tool is just for markers or a scoring tool. I never tried a second blade, I wonder if that would work? The cricut explore is the oldest and doesn't have bluetooth or the ability to hold two tools at one time. The cricut has a far better design as far as looks go, its seems like a much more sturdy machine, it is not loud at all and number one for me is it cuts excellent. It cuts way better than a silhouette although silhouette remains the most popular I believe with people running shops. The downfall to this machine is the software is very basic and for a lot of people it may work but for people running a shop and wanting more abilities to design it is lacking. The second con to the machine is that the software is totally an online program so you are a slave to the internet, a slave to the speed of the site and you can't work with it if you do not have internet because even though there is a port to insert cartridges it is merely for syncing the cartridge to your account. you cannot use the machine as a stand alone anymore even with cartridges like the old days. Price point is $249-299

Hopefully this helps in your decision making if you are looking to buy a machine.

Once you get familiar with the sizing of the items and what you use a lot maybe you will want to customize some for yourself you can do this with several common programs that you probably have on your computer. Go wild and make some of your own once you have some time. That is one of my goals. But at least when we don't have time we have plenty of free or reasonable options to jazz up our planners.

Now here is a spread I made with goodies from the Brimbles Box. I hope you grabbed yourself a Brimbles box. This one was equally as cute as always. I loved these lady bugs. I just am getting started for a few weeks down the road so it is not at all close to finished. I also will show you another Travelers notebook pocket folder I made. I am obsessed with these!

Mind over Matter

Mind over Matter

Most days I have great ideas, loads of "to do's" that I plan to do but I ultimately fail at getting them done. I am forever saying to my husband "tomorrow I want to organize my drawers" 'this weekend I need to clean out my closet" but guess what...those days come and go without results.

My problem is as long as I say it out loud it doesn't mean anything. I would say I am a bit of a type A person but since retiring I am a bit more relaxed about things. The problem for me lies in the fact that because I am type A and I don't accomplish these random things in my head they continue to bog up my head. A person like me that don't accomplish these goals will just go nuts at some point ha ha, cause we haven't done the things we said we were going to do.

So I am constantly nagged in my brain of all the task uncompleted. SO for me I have to rely on "to do" list and PLAN the items in my planner. Seeing them on paper makes them a permanent task that if I do not get the chance to mark off will drive me insane. Plus its goals for the day and I always try hard to complete what I have given myself to do.

So if you are remotely like this I suggest writing down a "to do" list and then taking your planner and spreading the task out and designate them for particular days throughout the week. Therefore not bogging yourself down but giving yourself a realistic goal that you know you can meet. It will make you feel so accomplished. I know I felt defeated if I talked these task out loud and didn't get them done.

Something about pen to paper does it for me. It makes it real and then therefore I personally set a goal for myself and make it happen. Try it sometime you will see it does make a difference. I own multiple planners so I try to designate one for my shop things and then use one for my everyday home life. You can also cross post them so that each planner is sync'd so if you do not open the other up you still have an idea of what you need to accomplish.

Everyone has a particular system. Make your system work for you but I am telling you most people who enjoy planners are probably people who are very much like me. I personally feel I am much more disciplined using a planner. Maybe I don't need 10 of them but I switch off depending on what colors I feel are going to make me happy for a while.

I hope this little ramble will help you get a system that works for you. We are all not perfect but we strive to make our life easier and productive and when planners came into my life I am much more focused. This post will be on Mrsbrimbles blog so please visit her blog, check out her shop!

Happy Planning!

I wanted to share some really cute items from the March Brimbles box with you. I wasn't sure I would love the space theme because I just don't have small children around or anything but I have to say it was one of my absolutely favorites!! I LOVED these stickers and ephemera! I am sad I used all the stickers!!!

Stamp and Sticker Organization

I am a self confessed planner stamp & sticker hoarder  addict. But I was finding I was doing more "collecting" than using and I felt like most of that was due to the fact it was so complicated to dig through my drawers and collect all the things I needed plus since my stamps and stickers were just very disorganized in my storage I decided I need to take some time to organize them and have all my goodies in a manageable place and thus I would get to use them more. I am on the Limelifeplanner blog today and sharing these ideas with you all.

I love Ikea but unfortunately for me I do not live close to one. So anytime we go on vacation the first thing I do is see if one is close by and fortunately I took a vacation in January and was able to get to one close by. I had wanted to purchase the Raskog cart for a long time and finally I was able too.

Top Shelf holds my most used planners, some pencil cases, Mambi sticker books and then my favorite washi tubes and single washi's in the smaller photo cases.

2ND shelf I have larger stamp sets that do not fit in the photo containers and I didn't want to take out of the original packaging. I am weird like that. I also have baby wipes for cleaning my stamps, my levenger punch and some colored pencils on that shelf.

Prior to leaving on vacation I had purchased so storage items so that I could take some things on my trip and keep everything tidy. I went to Joann's and I purchased the following products:

Photo Keeper that has 5 internal photo boxes in it that hold 5 x 7 photos and fit the planner stamps perfectly.

As you can see the stamps fit in the large 5 x 7 photo boxes well and I fit several in each.

I also bought a few singles of the photo boxes in a smaller size 4 x 6 to hold some washi tape you can see above. I couldn't find the link online, I purchased at the store itself. They are made by IRIS
I also bought the one shown also above that was an Artbin Essentials and it is great cause I fit at least 36 of the dew drops in it. All of these were found in the store and are not always available online from Joann's but I am sure you could find at other online sources.

Here are some items to make a quick simple sticker book:

Arc or Happy Planner Disc's or use a ring binder
Paper punch
sheets of cardstock
Adhesive for attaching your sticker sheets to paper

I started out making my sticker book by sorting my stickers by shops. Just put some adhesive on the back on the sticker sheets and lay down on your paper and you are done.  I think it would be great in the future if I set it up with tabs and sorted it as well but this time I just didn't take the time. But now I have a system that all my stickers are right next to me when I plan and I can easily find the right sticker and utilize them now. here are some pics of the sticker books I have made.

I can't tell you how much more efficient organizing these things can make you. I hope this helps some of you get your planner groove back by getting organized!

Prep for Extended Vacation & Real Estate search

Prep for Extended Vacation & Real Estate search

We are planning a month vacation and property search in sunny Florida since we are both retired and we hate the cold weather. This takes a lot of planning since we like to rent houses so we can feel comfortable for the that length of time we are staying. We started planning for this trip 10 months ago but we do like to plan ahead and there is peace of mind when you know you have the placed booked and don't have to rush around to find a place. Cold months are sometimes hard to find places since the snowbirds!

We are planning on finding property to buy so that we can go back and forth for a while until permanently moving to the warm climate. My daughter just got married in October and I have said if I don't get a grandbaby in 2 years I am flying south for good!

First step was we selected the general area we would like to focus on our real estate journey and book a house within less than an hour from any place we would be searching for a home. We typically rent through or and we haven't experienced any negative in doing so. We have used those services for years.

Second step was within the 2 months prior to leaving we got our pre-approvals for financing so we knew that we could indeed purchase while we were there and what budget we were looking to stay within. Maintaining two properties is not easy long distance so we have decided if at all possible we would purchase in a gated community that offered lawn services etc. so that in the months it would be empty we didn't have to worry about the property.

Third step I had to work on was a packing list and this consisted of not only clothing but everything that we needed to take such as medication and making sure we didn't need refills and had enough for the time gone. I continue to add to list daily as I think of things. On my list I also listed the things we needed to do to prep our house for the time gone. It is very cold where we live so since nobody would be staying in the house we had to think of things like ways to prep kitchen pipes from freezing and avoiding any water hazards while gone. My daughter will check on the house periodically. We always notify our close neighbors of our travels and we have always done this with them so that they can watch over our house and see who is coming and going and we do this for them as well when they leave. The list also had to cover electronics and chargers, items for our furbabies and anything that would be critical to have and we couldn't do without. That takes alot of thought when leaving for that long.

Fourth step was stopping our mail service and suspending our cable/internet. This saves quite a bit when you spend what we do on tv and internet services and we are retired so every dollar counts.

Fifth step was to contact a real estate agent and gave her the criteria for our home search. I also started looking on to see what was for sale so I could send her a list of what I liked and this will also help her to see what our expectations might be so that she knows if she comes across something whether it would interest us or not. My planner will be utilized a lot while there as I will map out areas we will travel and what days so that it maximizes our drives and we hit areas in an order that makes sense.

Sixth step and last but not least we booked a hotel for the road trip down as we are only traveling half way. We take our furbabies so we stopped a lot more and 8-10 hours in the car is enough. So I did the research for hotels around the half way point and checked reviews which is VERY important and made our reservations. The way home I will do the same process.

I used stamps from Sweet Stamp Shop, Cocoa Daisy, Limelife, Altelier Dreams

I have used my limelife notebook to create an organized list of to do and things to pack etc. Staying organized is crucial to making this work the best. I love to look at houses so this is going to be fun for me! On my actual planner I used Limelife stickers and stamp set and various other stamps to decorate. It is far from done but we are a few weeks away from January so it is a work in progress. I hope you take the time to check out Limelife planners and browse all the items you can order and how customizable they are. Check out the blog also there is always a good blog post about something that may be of interest to you!
